Chicago robber comes in second place in shooting contest with store clerk.

Demarcus Brandon was on parole for a string of gun crimes when he attempted another armed robbery.

He won’t be committing any more.

A 25-year-old man who was trying to rob a store on the South Side, was shot and killed by the store’s clerk.

Police say Demarcus Brandon was armed with a handgun, and tried to rob a cell phone store in the 1700 block of East 87th Street Tuesday night.

The store’s owner who also had a handgun himself shot and killed him.

There was an exchange of gunfire between Brandon and the clerk, but it’s not clear who shot first.

Brandon was paroled this summer after serving time for armed robbery and gun possession.

This would seemingly be an open and shut case just about anywhere else in the United States, but with a police superintendent like Chicago Garry McCarthy, there’s no telling on whether or not the store owner will face charges for simply defending his life.
