A Davie, Florida man was pistol-whipped by three home invaders that thought they were in control of the situation before the homeowner got his hands on an AK-pattern rifle and opened fire, sending two of them fleeing and the third to the morgue:
Two home invasion suspects are on the run and a third was shot and killed by a Davie resident Thursday night, police said.
The incident happened at a home on the 6100 block of Southwest 48th Street, Davie Police spokesman Capt. Dale Engle said.
Three armed men entered the apartment and pistol-whipped the resident inside, police said. He then confronted the suspects.
“The resident of the apartment had possession of an AK-47 and after he received this beating he was able to get possession or control of that, and started shooting at these suspects as they were fleeing,” Engle said.
Police have the identities of the two men who are on the run, and they and the dead home invader were known by the homeowner. Charges have not been filed against the homeowner, and he is said to be cooperating with authorities after suffering “significant” injuries.
Typically, people who fire on suspects within the home after being severely beaten are not charged. Even if the suspects are in the process of escaping, the odds of getting a conviction in a jury trial in such cases are usually quite slim.
