A Florida concealed carrier witnessed a man stabbing another near a bus stop in Orange County Florida and lept from his car to take the attacker down. Concealed carrier Jeffery Hopkins pulled his pistol and forced the attacker, Thomas Thorpe to the ground, where he held him until police arrived.
When deputies arrived at the scene, a knife was on the ground next to the bench and they found another knife in the suspect’s pocket.
“As I was getting out, I noticed the guy had a knife in his hand so I went for my gun and took him down,” Hopkins said. “He looked at me very scared. Then realized I was serious and dropped the knife and laid down immediately.”
Hopkins did not show his face for WFTV’s cameras because he said he doesn’t want any more attention and just wanted to help.
“If it was my father or anybody like that out there getting attacked, people need to get involved,” Hopkins said.
Witnesses said there was nothing unusual on the bus and the two men did not appear to be fighting before the attack.
“The thing about it is the dude said they didn’t even know each other from nothing, so I don’t know if he was trying to rob him or what, but he stabbed him up pretty good,” said Macon.
The victim of the attack, Mr. Sacco, was stabbed at least four times in the abdomen and had defensive wounds to his arms as well. He is in the hospital in stable condition. There’s not telling how many more times more Mr. Sacco might have been stabbed if Hopkins hadn’t intervened to stop the attack.
Thorpe, who did not know his victim and apparently picked him because he was an older man who walked with a cane and seemed like an easy mark, faces charges including attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and robbery. Thorpe also revealed himself to be a racist as he entered his plea as he attempted to reject a public defender during his first court appearance.
