Don't Invade The Wrong Home In Kalamazoo

A pair of failed home invaders—one with more holes in his body than he was originally issued—are cooling their heels in jail after targeting the wrong homeowner in Schoolcraft Township, Michigan.

According to officials with the Kalamazoo* Sheriff’s Department, the shooting happened around 11 p.m. at a home in the 800 block of West VW Avenue, outside of Schoolcraft.

Authorities say the homeowner noticed two people outside and then heard someone breaking in. The homeowner then grabbed a gun and shot a  suspect out of fear.

When the gun went off, the other suspect outside the home took off, but was later arrested by officers from the Vicksburg and Schoolcraft police departments.

The robbery suspect with a gunshot wound was transported to the hospital. That person’s condition was not available Monday, but authorities said his injuries were not life-threatening.

The suspects — a 26- and 27-year-old from Kalamazoo — will each face a felony charge of first-degree home invasion. A judge set a bond of $100,000 on each pending arraignment.

Authorities are not anticipating any charges for the homeowner in the incident, as the shooting was a clearly justified case of self-defense.

You’ll note that after the homeowner dropped Thug 1, Thug 2 immediate abandoned him, sprinting away from his injured comrade. The phrase, “there’s no honor among thieves” didn’t become a cliche without good reason. I’d be willing to bet that Thug 1 gave up Thug 2’s name to police without a second thought since his accomplice abandoned him.

While it seems that the “Internet tough” would always like to see criminals killed for committing even minor crimes, these Monday morning quarterbacks rarely give a second thought to the trauma of taking a life, even when absolutely required.

It was fortunate that the homeowner was armed and was able to stop these criminals without killing them.
