Suspect Identified In Ambush Murders Of Des Moines, Urbandale Officers

Des Moines Police have identified Scott Michael Greene, 46, of Urbandale (IA) as the lone suspect in the ambush murders of two police officers early this morning.

Urbandale resident Scott Michael Greene, 46, is being sought by investigators. Greene is 5’ 11” / 180 lbs with brown hair and green eyes. Greene was last known to be driving a blue 2011 Ford F-150 with Iowa license plate 780 YFR. The truck has a silver colored topper with a ladder rack.

Greene is believed to be armed and should be considered dangerous. If seen, please do not approach Greene, but call 911 and report his location.

The initial ambush of Urbandale Police officer took place as he sat in his squad car at 1:06 a.m. at 70th & Aurora.

Reporters on the scene claim that there were numerous bullet holes through the door of the Urbandale Police cruiser, which is marked “Sergeant” on the front fender. The officer apparently died at the scene.

The second shooting came at 1:26 AM at Merle Hay & Sheridan. The Des Moines officer shot in that incident was transported to the hospital, where he died.
