According to Kentucky State Police, Kevin J. Helton, 48, Cindy Puckett, 41, Jonathan Goodan, 45, and Brittany Crouch, 28, broke into a Carter County residence at 123 Clark Hollow shortly after 8:15 a.m. Saturday. After forcing their way inside, state police said the suspects proceeded to rob the home of an undisclosed amount of cash.

But during the armed robbery, an altercation broke out between the homeowner and one of the suspects. According to police, the homeowner was able to secure a weapon and took aim, killing Helton.

The homeowner and other residents of the house, including children, were not hurt in the incident.

Police confirm Puckett and Goodan fled the scene but were later apprehended. Crouch was taken into custody at the scene. All three suspects are currently in the Carter County Detention Center after being charged by police with first-degree robbery.
The Kentucky State Police are still investigating the incident; no word on whether the three suspects will be charged with the murder of their accomplice.
Yet another story showing how armed citizens can, and do, protect themselves and their loved ones with guns.
