'Chris, the N—er': Giffords-Endorsed Gun Control Rep. Gabe Vasquez Caught on Audio Harassing Ex-Colleague

Gun Control group Giffords endorses anti-Second Amendment candidates for office across the country. One of their hand-picked candidates is New Mexico congressman Rep. Gabe Vasquez (D-NM). He has received their endorsement twice, once in 2022 (archived) and again in 2024, and both the endorser and endorsee have bragged about it.

Here’s Vasquez advertising his endorsement from the Bill of Rights-hating organization in 2024 (archived):

And here’s Giffords bragging about Vasquez unseating an incumbent with  ‘A’ rating from the NRA in 2022 (archived):

Giffords’ involvement with Rep. Gabe Vasquez is deeper than a couple of throwaway social media endorsement tweets. He’s got web pages dedicated to him on the Giffords website for both 2022 (archived link) and 2024 (archived link).

His 2022 web page on the Giffords website is very vague about this gun control stance because he was running against an incumbent. But his 2024 page brags about the following:

While he is a sportsman who respects the Second Amendment, Congressman Vasquez is committed to fighting for the types of commonsense measures that are designed to save lives.

Throughout his time in Washington DC, Congressman Vasquez has consistently reached across the aisle to put public safety over partisan politics and has proudly supported numerous important gun safety measures like the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2023, Ethan’s Law, and the Assault Weapons Ban

With so much on the line this fall, we need to reelect officials who understand the need to strengthen our gun laws while supporting responsible gun ownership. [...]

We are proud to endorse Gabe Vasquez for the US House of Representatives.

Giffords has also donated $1000 to Vasquez’s campaign, according to public FEC records.

It turns out that Giffords’ gun control homeboy is a vile racist. The Washington Free Beacon reported the following yesterday (archived link):

'Chris, the N—er': Police Report Describes Dem Rep. Gabe Vasquez Using Racial Slur in Harassing Phone Call with Former Colleague

In the summer of 2004, a human resources employee at a call center in Las Cruces, New Mexico, received a call from a man who asked for "Chris." The employee asked the caller to elaborate, given that more than one Chris worked at the center. "Chris, the n—er," the caller responded, using a racial slur.

When the employee hung up, the man called again. This time, he asked for "Chris, the black man," laughed, and hung up the phone. The employee recognized the caller's voice and, after searching his telephone number, identified him as a former employee who had been "terminated for cause for falsifying data," according to a 2004 police report obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

That former employee is Rep. Gabe Vasquez (D.), the New Mexico congressman elected to represent the state’s second district in 2022...

So, not only was Vasquez fired for-cause for falsifying data, he also had the temerity to call his ex-employer back, and harass an African-American colleague he used to work with.

And in what appears to be the typical hypocrisy of progressive politicians, Vasquez wears his anti-racist religious creed on his sleeve:

The revelation is at odds with Vasquez's public image. In 2020, roughly three years after he was elected to the Las Cruces City Council as a progressive Democrat, he embraced the Black Lives Matter movement, calling to "rebuild the systems of oppression that keep black people in perpetual harm."

During his inaugural House campaign in 2022, Vasquez urged his followers to celebrate the "very important day" of Juneteenth, telling them that blacks "continue to build this country and enrich our communities and our lives."

Vasquez has also been quick to declare others racist, deleting tweets during that campaign that compared the Trump administration to the Ku Klux Klan, CNN reported.

Vasquez has a longer checkered past, apparently, with domestic disturbances to boot:

The Free Beacon obtained the police report through a public records request with the city of Las Cruces seeking documents that included Vasquez's name and date of birth.

The Free Beacon received responsive records, all of which stem from Vasquez's time at New Mexico State University, which the now-congressman attended from 2002 to 2008.

Four of the five records list Vasquez by name. Two stem from arguments between Vasquez and his girlfriend and two detail arrests for marijuana possession.

The irony here is that Vasquez's girlfriend could have easily filed a domestic violence complaint against him, whether or not the argument escalated into violence, and per the gun control policies pushed by Giffords and voted for by Vasquez, the Congressman would become a prohibited person himself. Likewise, his marijuana use would have made him a prohibited person.

The Giffords endorsee’s racism and hypocrisy fits right in with progressive gun control supporters. Gun control, after all, was based on racism and still is very much racist. Throw in Vasquez's other shenanigans, and the situation looks like a farce with unfortunate serious implications for everyone's rights.
