HR 825 Introduced To Fund "Gun Violence Research" At CDC

One of the big roadblocks that the anti-freedom factions in the federal government have been up against in weaponizing the Centers for Disease Control against gun owners are provisions in law that restrict funding that will promote gun control legislation. For several decades a rider to the federal budget known as the Dickey Amendment blocked giving the CDC money that could be used to conduct biased “research” supporting more gun control laws, but in 2019 a spending bill signed by then-President Donald Trump included $25-million for studies related to “gun violence research.”

Now, Rep. Carolyn Maloney from New York has introduced a new bill to continue that funding. Text of the bill is not yet available, but a previous version of the legislation introduced back in 2017 by Maloney would have given tens of millions of dollars to the agency.
“There is authorized to be appropriated to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention $10,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2018 through 2023 for the purpose of conducting or supporting research on firearms safety or gun violence prevention under the Public Health Service Act (42 U.S.C. 201 et seq.). The amount authorized to be appropriated by the preceding sentence is in addition to any other amounts authorized to be appropriated for such purpose.”
If Maloney’s new bill is anything like her previous legislation, that would mean at least $50-million of tax payer dollars will be used to fund studies that most gun owners suspect will come with a heaping helping of anti-gun bias. With the doors being wide open to the CDC for making “leaps and bounds” in the arena of “gun violence research” by receiving such funding, things like a national epidemic of gun violence will be asserted as well as other thinly veiled policies and declarations made in the interest of “public health”.

Let us not forget that the CDC is the same organization that conveniently did not widely release findings on research concerning the defensive use of firearms because what was learned was inconvenient.
Though they may appear innocuous, bills like the one introduced by Maloney are dangerous, especially when there are vehemently anti-freedom movers and shakers entrenched in the CDC to ensure that the “science” conveniently matches up with the anti-gun agenda of the Biden/Harris administration. We don’t need to wait for the dirty details to know this is yet another bill that gun owners should oppose, and every Second Amendment supporter should be contacting their representatives in Congress to urge them to reject H.R. 825.
