Ralph Northam And Liberal Hypocrisy On Guns And Race

First, let me start off by noting that not all liberals are rabidly anti-gun. There is a handful who value the right to keep and bear arms, who understand that you cannot defend the Bill of Rights without defending all of those rights unless you want to look like a complete moron. Yes, the pro-gun liberal exists.

However, we also have to understand they’re a minority. If the weren’t, our rights wouldn’t be under assault in any meaningful way. After all, if conservatives, liberals, and libertarians all valued the right to keep and bear arms, then the handful of people who stand against it would have no political power at all. They’d be about as effective as the Flat Earth Society.

That’s not the case, though.

Among the many ways liberals try to frame themselves, though, is that they’re vehemently anti-racist. Ask a liberal why they hate President Donald Trump and I promise you, one of the accusations they’ll sling against him is that he’s a racist. They make it clear they despise racists with every ounce of their being.

Yet why are they celebrating Virginia Governor Ralph Northam?

A while back, the state of Virginia was rocked by a series of scandals, one of which included a photograph of Ralph Northam during his college days. Two figures, one in blackface and one dressed as a Klansman and one of which was Northam, was plastered all over the media. No one could ignore the fact that Northam did some pretty shady stuff in his past.

Considering that we live in a world where you never outrun your history, this should have been the end of Northam’s career. Instead, he seized on the horrible tragedy of a mass shooting at a Virginia Beach municipal building and began preaching the gun control gospel.

Suddenly, Northam’s history was irrelevant. The overt racism of that act no longer mattered. All that mattered was that Northam became a champion of gun control, for them a shining beacon for the rest of the nation to follow.

The media that had been hounding Northam suddenly became his biggest ally.

Yet through it all, there’s been no remarks of contrition from Northam. He didn’t start by saying he was wrong, that he shouldn’t have done that in college. He hasn’t done any of the things one might expect a regretful man to do in order to atone for his past wrongdoing.

And the left simply doesn’t care.

Why?

The answer is really quite simple. They don’t care because racism really isn’t something they care about all that much. What they care is about is curtailing the rights of ordinary Americans. They care about gun control.

No one should be surprised, after all.

Historically gun control was the position of the racist. The first gun control laws weren’t created to combat crime, but to disarm blacks so they were unable to resist.

Following the Civil War, the South wanted to continue disarming the former slaves. With a watchful federal government overseeing them during Reconstruction, they couldn’t get away with their previous shenanigans, so they simply passed more blanket gun control laws. They knew no white sheriff would enforce such a law on a white man.

Oh, over time, that bit changed, but the origins of the laws didn’t.

One would think that the same left that tends to scream about the legacies of racism in this country would want to know about the racist roots of gun control.

Yet, like Northam’s racist history, they ignore that because none of that really matters to them. It’s pandering to a group of minorities they’ve got to great pains to indoctrinate–much like everyone else, to be fair–into believing that they are the champions of the oppressed.

Ralph Northam’s racist past is given a pass simply because he’s now making the right moves. For minorities in this country, this really should be a wakeup call; an understanding that the people who claim to represent you and to stand for you don’t actually give a damn about you.

Meanwhile, these same people will claim that if a bunch of black men and women walked around Richmond open carrying, we’d change our tunes. They seemed to be silent, though, when photos surfaced of minority men and women–most of whom were black, but not all–doing just that and being celebrated by their comrades outside the gates in Richmond.

Gun control is and always has been racist. That’s why Northam is so fond of it, apparently.

The hypocritical left, though, doesn’t get to back him and racist gun control and get a pass for supposedly being anti-racist. That’s not now it works.
