Anti-Gunners Freak At Plan To Fund Arming Of Teachers

Teachers are, in theory, among the most trustworthy members of our society. It helps that they have to go through background checks to get their jobs in the first place, but that’s not the only reason we tend to trust them. Part of it is that for parents, we have little choice. We have to leave our children, the centers of our universe, with them for hours and hours each weekday during the school year and have to trust that they’ll take as good a care of them as we would.

It isn’t easy, but most of the time, they live up to that trust.

So why is the idea of arming teachers so horrible? Especially among people who seem to be so willing to canonize them for sainthood?

Democrats and gun control activists on Thursday blasted reports that the Education Department is mulling plans to allow states to spend federal grant money to arm teachers.

The Education Department would not confirm the plans, first reported by The New York Times, saying only that it is “constantly considering and evaluating policy issues.”

But the news, coming just as children are heading back to school, sparked feverish pushback from those who say more guns in the hands of school officials and workers won’t stop shootings.

“This is outrageous. America’s teachers are already forced to spend their own meager salaries on basic school supplies, but the Trump administration would rather use taxpayer money to buy them guns,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety.

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos reportedly is eyeing a program known as Student Support and Academic Enrichment grants to get around a prohibition on schools spending safety grants to buy firearms.

Look, if teachers are spending their own salaries on school supplies, that needs to be addressed–and believe me, they do. I’ve seen it with my children’s teachers through the years–but that’s a separate discussion. If our children are as vulnerable as the Democrats constantly claim, they should be clamoring for something like this.

After all, teachers can do no wrong in their eyes, which is why they’re always going on about teachers deserving more money despite the median teacher income in the United States is on par with the median household income while only working a part of the year, then what’s the problem? They’ve passed background checks. They’re going to be trained. It’s also unlikely that firearms will be required to be carried by teachers, leaving it up to volunteers–think something like arming airline pilots in the event of a highjacking–so what’s the problem?

Oh, I know what it is. They don’t give a damn about saving kids lives. They just want to restrict our rights more and more and pretend it’s about safety.

Gun control supporters aren’t even willing to trust teachers with firearms. Despite constantly claiming teachers are so wonderful that they deserve so much more money, something’s wrong.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not in favor of taxpayers buying teachers guns. I’d rather teachers bring their own concealed carry firearms. But at the end of the day, I want more guns in the hands of responsible, law-abiding people there to help protect these kids.
