Mossberg makes some really great firearms. Maybe I’m biased because I just really love my Mossberg 500 shotgun, but I don’t think so. They’re not an expensive, high-end brand or anything, they just focus on making guns that work when you want them to. They’re kind of like Glock that way, and I mean that as a compliment.
But, for the most part, Mossberg only really sold internationally through a single distributor. That sucks for people all over the world, in my opinion.
Mossberg apparently felt the same way.
Mossberg announced today that they will begin selling its products factory-direct to international distributors on November 1, 2019. Mossberg previously utilized Essex International Trading, Inc., as an exclusive distributor for Mossberg product shipping into most of the global marketplace. Mossberg and Essex have mutually agreed to terminate their business relationship, effective immediately.
“The international sales landscape has evolved over the past five years and we’ve identified the need to create a factory-direct distribution network that will increase product availability worldwide,” said John MacLellan, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Mossberg. “We are excited about this change and believe that it will allow us to better reach our global customer-base through a new competitive, direct-to-international distributor sales model.”
Mossberg will be actively working to set up international market-specific distribution agreements in the coming months. All international sales inquiries should be directed to Erica Basile, International Sales Manager for Mossberg. Erica can be reached by calling +1 203-230-5352 or by sending an email to [email protected].

That’s likely good news for the company. Especially as firearms manufacturers struggle with the U.S. market still being sluggish in the era of Donald Trump as president. While the industry itself is secure, the market is depressed from where it was for the previous eight years under a gun-grabber-in-chief like President Obama.
By branching out into more international sales, this may well help the company financially as other nations’ gun markets won’t be so impacted by American politics.
Of course, there are plenty of other things that could make them volatile as hell.
That’s just the nature of the beast when dealing with international markets. Ask the oil companies who were doing business down in Venezuela when the government nationalized the petroleum industry about that sometime.
Anyway, this is about guns, not gas, and Mossberg will hopefully increase its market.
What isn’t mentioned is any reference to State Department approval. That’s probably because these will be the same products already approved for international sales and thus there’s no need to get into that kind of thing.
