Later today or early tomorrow, we'll find out for sure whether or not Massachusetts has rejected the latest gun control laws out of a state that seems to embrace gun control like the rest of us embrace breathing. It should be a no-brainer, but the expectation is that the people of the state will vote to keep the law as it currently is, leaving only the courts as a recourse.

And it should be noted that this is only the latest infringement.

How bad is it?

Well, let's just say that calling it "beyond ridiculous" is too mild.

On the eve of a historic vote on whether Massachusetts citizens will keep or repeal onerous Chapter 135 governing gun law in the Commonwealth, the executive director of the Massachusetts Gun Owners Action League (GOAL) got a startling surprise when he tried to download gun laws already in effect in the Bay State.

GOAL’s Jim Wallace told TGM via telephone and email that he had asked Artificial Intelligence to “make a document with every gun law and regulation in full text of same a Massachusetts gun owner needs to understand. Include civil and criminal.”

ChatGPT responded, “Complete ML + federal statutes + ATF CFR: roughly 600-900 pages. That, plus cases and local law (span) 1,500+ pages and no longer one ‘file.’”

Now, understand that Wallace asked for the things a gun owner needs to know and understand, but what happened is over 600 pages of just state and federal law, not counting court precedents and local ordinances, and I don't know about you, but I have yet to memorize anything that totals 1,500 pages or more, and as someone who has spent a little time on stage with various amateur theater productions, I've done my share of memorizing. Let's just say that to know and understand all of this is a herculean task that few will ever get right.

Let's also understand that ignorance of the law is no defense of violating the law. You can't point to the absurd number of laws, express the rational position that no one can really be aware of all of them, and get off for violating one of those laws you knew nothing about.

I can't help but think this is intentional; one of those "show me the man and I'll show you the crime" kind of things.

It's not that they intend to round everyone up so much as knowing that many gun owners are violating the law whether they know it or not, which means they can pretend they're the lenient ones for not prosecuting everybody right here and now.

But I will point out that if these 1,500 pages of laws and precedents didn't eliminate so-called gun crime in the state completely, then just how many more thousands of pages will it take?

The answer is zero.

Gun laws don't solve the problem, and the mere presence of this many laws, all while Massachusetts isn't appreciably safer because of them, is evidence of just that.

So later today, what residents of the Bay State should do is go to the polls and reject gun control. Unfortunately, for too many of them, 1,500 pages probably sounds like a good start.

Editor’s Note: The radical Left will stop at nothing to enact their extreme gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
