Judge Temporarily Blocks 3D Printed Guns Decision

It seems like this has been going on forever at this point.

Last year, the Trump Administration decided that 3D printer files didn’t violate federal law and allowed Defense Distributed to release them into the wild. They did and people downloaded them in droves. At that moment, gun control became even less of a viable option than it was before.

It really isn’t any surprise that anti-gun lawmakers have blown a proverbial gasket over this.

As a matter of fact, a number of state attorney generals have filed suit to block the release of these files. Now, a judge has agreed to temporarily block the decision.

A federal judge in Washington state issued a temporary injunction blocking Trump administration rule changes that could allow people to share plans for 3-D printed firearms in person, by mail or email.

Washington state Attorney General Bob Ferguson, who is leading a coalition of 21 states including Oregon, Connecticut, and Washington D.C. in a federal lawsuit to block the new rules from going into effect, said person-to-person sharing is a huge loophole.

“If the Trump Administration has its way, these ghost guns will be available to anyone regardless of age, mental health or criminal history,” he said in a statement.

Of course, the problem with Ferguson’s statement is that those same people seem to be able to get guns just fine as it is. It’s the law-abiding citizens who are going to be impacted. It’s the hobbyists who like to tinker with things, including firearms, that are going to be affected. It won’t be the criminals.

No, what it’s really about is control. They don’t like the idea of people being able to build guns themselves because it means the government has to give up the illusion of control. It means people like you or I don’t have to approach the government, hat in hand, and say, “Please sir, I want some more.”

That’s what all of this is really about. They’re terrified of an armed populace.

Oh, sure, they make it sound like it’s all about stopping crime, but when have they successfully managed that one? I haven’t seen any real, concrete example of gun control actually working anywhere. They prefer their little illusions to the hard reality.

Meanwhile, though, those 3D printer plans? Those computer files they’re so concerned about? Those are already in the wild. The genie is already out of the bottle. They’re floating around the internet already. They’re sitting on countless hard drives throughout the nation even as you read this.

Gun control is effectively dead. It’s beyond time to put an end to the masquerade, to stop pretending that you even can control the gun trade, and start focusing on the truth. Guns aren’t responsible for high crime in many of these places. Violent crime is a complicated issue with numerous causes, but it doesn’t go away if you remove guns from the equation.

And you won’t. It’s not humanly possible.

So hopefully, this judge’s decision will soon come to an end and internet files will again flow freely. Maybe then, lawmakers will be forced to address the root causes of violence instead of the boogiemen in their own heads.
