Biden's Orwellian Relationship With Defund The Police

In George Orwell’s 1984, the government gaslighted the entire public. They constantly repeated falsehoods as if they were fact, all but daring anyone to contradict them. “Oceana has always been at war with Eurasia.” Well, that’s now happening with the “defund the police” movement, it seems.

As we all clearly remember, talk of defunding the police began last year immediately following the death of George Floyd. Democrats throughout the nation started talking about defunding law enforcement and using that money for things like hiring social workers and so on.

Yet recently, a lot of Democrats haven’t just moved away from that. A year or more of increased violent crime will do that for ya.

However, Biden can’t seem to admit that Democrats wanted to defund the police.

He went on to say that he and other Democrats had never called for defunding the police while asserting that Republicans who point out the left’s support for the movement are liars. Biden went as far as to ask, “are there people in the Republican Party who think we’re sucking the blood out of people?”

After returning to the White House from Ohio Wednesday, reporters on the South Lawn followed up on the issue of Democrats being anti-police. Biden asserted they have no plan on defunding them despite previous comments on the matter.

“I am the Democratic Party, so is the Speaker and so is the Majority Leader,” he stated. “We are not defunding the police.”

But, defunding the police was a point for Democrats last year. A big one. This wasn’t a thing in rural Oklahoma, after all. It was in Democratic-held cities.

Previously, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki tried to argue that it was really Republicans who wanted to defund the police.

Freedom is slavery.

This is nothing more than a reflection of the Orwellian gaslighting the Biden administration has dedicated itself to. What would the harm have been in saying that yes, some Democrats wanted to reduce police funding in the wake of law enforcement killing an unarmed man during an arrest? He could have spun that easily enough by saying that he doesn’t support such a thing and saying that few in Congress support such a thing, either.

But he didn’t. He stood there and tried to create an analogy to the most ridiculous conspiracy theory he could think of to try and compare the two. He was trying to convince the media and, by extension the American people that he and his party have never held such a view.

Never mind all the news reports saying otherwise. Don’t you dare believe your lying eyes.

All he had to say is that he opposed the idea and as president, it simply wouldn’t happen under his watch. Instead, he has to pretend it simply never happened.

What’s worse is the attention span of the American people is such that one can’t really assume they’ll remember how it started. It’s terrifying, but it just might work.

So it seems that Oceana has always been at war with Eastasia.
