Bay Area felon gets 5 years after flaunting gun on instagram

California has a lot of gun control laws on the books. It’s the most anti-gun state in the nation, and little has changed following Bruen. They’re all about making it difficult for people to get guns.

Like most gun control fans, though, they argue that the issue is that if folks like you or me can get firearms easily, then criminals will get them easily as well.

So, they make it as difficult as possible.

Yet a recent sentencing makes it impossible not to question that line of “reasoning.”

A San Rafael man who allegedly posted pictures of himself holding a pistol as he drove through Oakland has been sentenced to five years and three months in federal prison, court records show.

Tyler Revels, 25, was sentenced in late June by U.S. District Judge Vince Chhabria. Revels pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm, a charge that stemmed from an April 2021 probation search of his home that occurred after his probation officer learned of the incriminating Instagram posts, prosecutors said.

Probation officers found 60 loose bullets, a loaded pistol and multiple magazines in the home, authorities said.

So not only was he an armed felon but a pretty stupid armed felon at that.

Yet despite those limitations, he still got his hands on a weapon despite the copious gun control laws throughout the state.

Sure as hell looks like those laws did jack squat to keep a weapon out of his hands, now doesn’t it?

That’s because criminals don’t care about the law. They don’t go through things like background checks and they don’t buy from law-abiding citizens, by and large. They either steal the gun–and there’s some evidence this guy was an active thief himself–or they buy one from someone else who has a stolen gun.

You’re not going to keep master criminals like this from getting firearms. It’s not going to happen.

All that we see are law-abiding, responsible gun owners trying to do the right thing, jumping through every hoop, all so they can be treated like a criminal or a mass shooter while people like this dipstick just sidestep the whole thing, get a gun, go through none of that hassle, and then be stupid enough to flaunt it on social media.

It’s absolutely pathetic.

Yet this is what anti-gunners lay out for us. This is where they think we should put our time, treasure, and effort into, all for what? So some loudmouth idiot criminal can get a gun but I can’t have one to defend myself from the idiot?

Seriously?

At the end of the day, this is what gun control is.

It’s not ever about curtailing criminals’ behavior. It’s framed as such but it never actually does that. It just makes it harder for regular people to get a gun. That’s because anti-gun lawmakers blame people like you and me for this jackwagon’s existence. We’re the ones to blame, in their minds, even though it’s their rules that make it harder for us and do nothing for him.
