Michigan has embraced a lot of gun control laws since Gov. Gretchen Whitmer took office. While she hid her face in the Oval Office, her gun record should have her hiding her face everywhere else, too.
As per usual, all of the measures passed were sold as ways to prevent criminal activity of some description. This is the selling point for every bit of gun control.
Yet some arrests in Detroit are definitely evidence that the laws just aren't working.
A search warrant at a Detroit senior citizen apartment building uncovered money, drugs and guns, resulting in 10 arrests, according to police.
...
A total of 20.6 grams of fentanyl was confiscated, as well as 29.6 grams of cocaine, three guns and $3,616 in cash. Police say the drugs are valued at $4,428.
What makes this one really weird is that there's a bit in the story about how they're unsure if the arrested parties are residents there or not, and now I have a vision in my mind of this apartment building being a retirement place for street-level criminals who just can't give up dealing drugs.
I fully expect Hollywood to turn this into a comedy any day now.
Or maybe that would take too much creativity for them. Who knows?
Anyway, about this arrest, we don't know anything about the guns other than there were three of them, but we do know that between the fentanyl and the cocaine, it's not difficult to imagine just how the arrested parties got them. I mean, if you can get drugs, which are more highly regulated than firearms, you can get guns easily enough. It's one of the failings of gun control.
One of many.
Whitmer's many anti-gun initiatives make it harder for law-abiding citizens to get guns, but at least three of these folks had them despite the many laws against it.
It seems ridiculous that we have to keep saying this, but criminals don't obey the law. That's kind of part of the job description. This wouldn't be a big deal if the laws didn't really have an impact on what law-abiding folks want to do with regard to protecting themselves, but it does, which means that the good guys are hobbled while the bad guys can keep doing what they want.
It's insane.
I was going to say, "Then again, no one ever said gun control was sane," but that's not entirely true, now is it?
They say something akin to it all the time. That doesn't make it true.
Criminals, regardless of age, will not obey gun laws. They'll have them, they'll get them via illegal means, then they'll use them in ways that you and I won't approve of.
Then, when that happens, people like the lawmakers in Michigan will swoop in and say we need more of what didn't work, and the lemmings on the gun control side of things will just nod sagely and pretend we're the crazy ones for seeing through the matrix.
Michigan is going down the wrong road, and Detroit isn't going to be any safer because of it.
I mean, there were more guns in a senior living apartment building than some gun rights supporters own.
You guys clearly need to buy more guns, though, because that's kind of embarrassing.
