Sen. John Kennedy: 'We Need More Idiot Control'

The shooting in New York City will likely be a big story for quite a while. It's unsurprising, really. A mass shooting in the Big Apple? How can the media resist? Especially since the gun was transported from out of state.

The news shows had an absolute field day, and that included bringing in various guests to discuss what happened.

One such guest was Sen. John Kennedy, who is known for his epic one-liners. The dude is an absolute national treasure for that fact alone.

Asked about gun control in the wake of the shooting, Kennedy delivered pretty much what you expected he would.

Sen. John Kennedy dismissed the idea of tightening up gun laws — instead suggesting that the city brings back the stop-and-frisk tactic to combat gun violence.

The Louisiana Republican weighed in on the discourse shortly after a crazed gunman stormed a Midtown skyscraper before killing a brave NYPD officer and three others Monday.

Appearing on Fox News, Kennedy said that “all you can do in a time like this is be sorry” for the victims, before anticipating that some of his colleagues will be advocating for increased gun control measures as a result of the massacre.

“On Capitol Hill, probably beginning in the morning, there’ll be the inevitable call by some of my colleagues for more gun control laws,” Kennedy (R-La.) said on Sean Hannity’s show Monday.

“We’ve got hundreds of gun control laws, Sean. Maybe thousands. We don’t need more gun control, we need more idiot control, and I don’t know exactly how to do that.”

He's right on all counts, and I give him credit for acknowledging how hard it is to control idiots.

Unsurprisingly, some had thoughts on just that.

Really? How are you going to do that?

No, seriously, how?

Plenty of other people touted gun control in response to Kennedy's comments, but no one had any actionable suggestions. They just seemed to offer platitudes that gun control is the answer.

Of course, New York has gun control aplenty, but none of that stopped the killer.

So, pray tell, just how do you keep guns out of idiots' hands when so many idiots seem to get guns illegally? Sure, this guy may well have purchased his firearm lawfully--there doesn't seem to be any indication he couldn't have, at least--but just what would you do to stop him?

Ban AR-15s? It's New York City. He could have killed just as many people with a handgun. Hell, the Virginia Tech killer murdered more people than this dude did, and that's what he used.

Make everything a gun-free zone? NYC tried that. See how it worked?

So just what can be done with regard to gun control? Hell, there was a mass stabbing in Michigan over the weekend that was stopped by a good guy with a gun. Funny how that isn't entering the debate with these people. That guy in Michigan hurt a lot of people, but had he not stopped, who knows how many would have been killed before the incident was over?

And that dude is one of the idiots Kennedy is talking about here.

We don't need gun control. We need idiot control. Lots of idiot control.
