It Seems Guns are Totally Cool With Don Lemon Now

I really do try to understand where people are coming from politically. I think it helps me with trying to break down their arguments and address their points in a somewhat reasonable manner.

I can't, however, get into the heads of people who are so anti-ICE that they're ready to inflict violence on them.

It's one thing to oppose the current immigration laws or to think that the way ICE addresses illegal immigration is too much, but violence? To say that's a little excessive is putting it a bit mildly.

What's really amusing is how many of these people are generally anti-gun, like former CNN talking head Don Lemon.

Former CNN host Don Lemon is urging black and brown Americans to arm themselves with firearms in case ICE agents come to their doors.

During an appearance last week on “The Left Hook with Wajahat Ali,” Lemon said he was not “condoning or promoting violence,” but claimed ICE agents were "rounding [people] up off the street without due process" and "sending them off to a gulag."

"If you believe in the Second Amendment, if you believe in the Constitution, black people, brown people of all stripes, whether you're an Indian American or a Mexican American or whoever you are, go out in your place where you live and get a gun legally. Get a license to carry legally," Lemon said. "Because when you have people knocking on your door and taking you away without due process as a citizen, isn't that what the Second Amendment was written for?"

"Nobody is illegal," Lemon continued. "It is a misdemeanor to cross the border. Now, if you do it a number of times, then it becomes something else. But… there's nowhere near the level of criminality, we have degrees of criminality in this country, and what Donald Trump did is at the highest level of criminality, except for taking someone's life, and someone who is crossing the border is nowhere near that."

Now, it is, in fact, a misdemeanor. However, let's also remember that many of these illegal immigrants were criminals in their home countries and have continued to cause problems here. That alone is cause for deportation, and since an awful lot of them don't get caught breaking laws until American citizens are killed, I get why Trump wants to crack down on it here and now.

However, let's also remember that you can't just take a dump on the Second Amendment year after year and then suddenly decide, "Hey, isn't this what the Second Amendment is written for?"

I mean, where is the whole "you can't defeat the US government without fighter jets" thing now? Where is the "you don't need that to hunt deer" thing all of a sudden?

Many of these ICE raids are in places where people like Don Lemon have agitated for strict gun control laws and gotten them. People can't just get a gun that easily.

And illegals can't get a gun lawfully at all.

So even if it was the appropriate time to use our Second Amendment rights to defend freedom--spoiler: it ain't--it's virtually impossible for people in many of these states to do so, all because of the laws Lemon himself supported.

Behold, irony so thick that I can set my coffee on it while I work.
