Breaking News: Wonkette is still a thing.
I know, I'm as surprised as you are, yet as I scrolled through the old news feed looking for stories, there it was. Wonkette.
And, unsurprisingly, they're posting stuff that only seems witty and insightful to those with the mental acuity of a tree frog. Never change, Wonkette. Never change.
What I mean is that their writer is taking issue with the pro-gun reaction to Bondi Beach. In particular, they frame it with the headline, "America's Vilest MAGA Creeps Sneer At Unarmed Australians For Getting Shot."
But is anyone?
What a weekend, huh? A beloved entertainment figure and his wife were stabbed to death, allegedly by their troubled son. Somebody shot up a classroom at Brown University, killing two students.
And a father and son shot up a Hanukkah celebration on popular Bondi Beach in Australia. At last count, the death toll stood at 16 (including one of the shooters), with at least 42 other people hospitalized.
Everyone knows what this means: it’s time for the worst people in America to sneer sentiments along the lines of Ooooooh, I thought Australia had strict gun laws that would prevent massacres! If only there had been one armed person there to shoot back! This is why you’ll pry my murder stick from my cold, dead hands!
Here, for example, is world-class shithead Laura Ingraham barely waiting for the bodies to be removed from the beach:
But Ingraham's comments were about Australia's gun laws and "diversity is our strength" thinking.
They screenshot a post on X from Sen. Mike Lee, who also points out Australia's strict gun control laws.
That's pretty much all I've seen on social media since Sunday's attack.
So it seems pretty clear to anyone with an IQ above room temperature--which, of course, would make them overqualified to write for Wonkette--that no one is bashing unarmed Australians for being shot.
At most, they're bashing them for allowing themselves to be unarmed.
That's a big difference.
You see, after Port Arthur, many Australians were eager to give up their guns. They willingly handed them in and followed the rules, saying they had to. A lot of Americans wouldn't have, but they did, and they were proud to have done so.
They've clamored for more gun control on a regular basis. They like it. They're all but saying, "Give me that gun control harder, Sir."
And when there's something awful here in the United States, they sit on a high horse and claim that nothing like that could happen there because they were oh-so-sensible and gave up their guns.
So when the wolves came huffing and puffing, they had nothing to stop them with. They were prey, and even their police hid instead of protecting them as they believed would happen should the worst come.
If they're being mocked, it's not for getting shot. It's for allowing themselves to be disarmed so that unarmed citizens are forced to put their lives on the line to protect others while having nothing but guts to protect them.
You can be prey if you want to be. That's your call.
You just don't get to make that call for everyone else, and the Australians did. That's all anyone has been pointing out.
Of course, when you consider the source, it's not difficult to figure out how they missed something so obvious.
Never change, Wonkette. Never change.
