When I was younger, I thought the UN had the potential to do a lot of good. As I've gotten older, I've recognized that it's hard to have an entity accomplish anything when all the members are so different culturally that no one can agree on what is even acceptable. Bribery, for example, is common in much of the undeveloped world. It's just assumed as the cost of doing business, and officials calculate that as part of their salary. No one seems to care.
But we see it as a problem, one which can create friction on the world stage, especially when those who accept it work for an organization that we primarily fund.
Another example is the issue of firearms.
There's nowhere in the world that views gun rights quite the same way we do. Switzerland has a lot of guns per capita, sure, but a lot of those deal with their militia system. Mexico allegedly has its own version of the Second Amendment, but considering how restrictive the laws are, it's not doing them a damn bit of good.
And when it comes to the UN, they have a habit of siding with the majority. Part of that involved an arms trade agreement, which the United States no longer has to worry about.
President Donald Trump just delivered a long-overdue message to the global gun confiscation cartel: America is not taking orders from the United Nations.
In a major move for national sovereignty and Second Amendment freedom, the Trump administration has formally withdrawn the United States from the United Nations Register of Conventional Arms (UNROCA), a UN-run reporting system that gun rights advocates have warned for years is part of the international bureaucracy’s long game to pressure nations into “standardized” gun restrictions.
What Is the UN Register of Conventional Arms?
UNROCA is a so-called “voluntary” United Nations registry where participating countries report information about weapons transfers, including categories of conventional arms and, in many cases, small arms and light weapons.
Supporters claim it promotes “transparency.”
But gun owners know how this game works.
Transparency is always the excuse and control is always the goal. Because once international bureaucrats start collecting data, they don’t stop at tracking tanks and fighter jets.
The same institutions pushing global disarmament narratives always work their way down to the civilian level, using “international norms” as the wedge to attack private gun ownership.
Exactly.
It's also part of why I have an issue referring to any firearm as "military grade." This is all but inviting globalist bureaucrats to step in and try to regulate the domestic firearm market.
Especially considering the term "military grade" is vague enough to encompass pretty much anything. I mean, the term is generally used to describe AR-15s, but what about Sig P320s? What about 1911s? What about my Glock 19? Those are in arsenals throughout the world, including some used among special operations teams. Are those "military grade" or not?
This whole register was nothing more than a nonsense attempt to create international gun control, but it's also a strong indication of how stupid that is. Two-bit arms dealers are still putting weapons in the hands of African warlords. Terrorists are still getting firearms from people like Iran. The only people holding to this register are those interested in obeying it. Those that don't, just like any domestic gun law, won't.
And, of course, these violations will be used to try to justify interference with domestic firearm regulations.
While that's still easier said than done, the truth of the matter is that the UN shouldn't get a say in any of it. It's no one else's business if we sell F-35s to Poland. That's between us and Poland, so why would we need to involve the UN at all?
So pulling us out of this is a good thing, if for no other reason than it's a stupid, useless bit of rulemaking created by bureaucrats who really don't a toss about the killing in the undeveloped world, they just want to try and hold onto their own authority for as long as they can. That's it.
Editor’s Note: The radical left will stop at nothing to enact their radical gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
