California has more gun control than anywhere else in the country, and with the World Cup taking place all around the United States, one has to imagine that anywhere associated with the event will get the highest security possible. After all, wouldn't a World Cup game make a juicy terrorism target?
And as Europeans come to the United States for the game, fall in love with places like Buc-Ee's, and recognize that America is an absolutely amazing place, I'd really rather they not see the worst side of us.
Unfortunately, gun-controlled California seems to be a bit of a problem.
Two people were shot, one fatally, at a World Cup watch party location Sunday afternoon in gun-controlled San Jose, California.
The New York Post reported that the incident occurred around 2:00 p.m.
The specific area where the shooting occurred was a designated “fan zone,” Reuters noted, but no games were being aired there at the time of the shooting.
In an X post, San Jose Police said, “One victim was pronounced deceased on scene. The second victim was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.”
Thankfully, the fan zone wasn't likely to be as crowded as it might otherwise have been had a game been on, but it was still not a good look.
Of course, I'm pretty sure that such a fan zone would be a gun-free zone, though that hasn't been mentioned explicitly. If so, once again we see the absolute non-power of a gun-free zone sign.
And to think that the vampire rule that was just struck down, and is being lamented all over the gun control world, is predicated on the assumption that gun-free zones actually work.
It would be cute if it weren't so vile.
Of course, this being a site associated with the World Cup puts more eyes on this than might otherwise look at it. I know that if this was just some random bar or something in California, I probably wouldn't pay much attention to it, either. Shootings happen, unfortunately, and while I do sincerely wish they wouldn't, the truth is that you can't just wish them away.
And the insistence of some people, many of whom are the people in charge in California, is that you can. Just throw up a sign, restrict guns some for the law-abiding, and suddenly, everything will turn out hunky-dory. When it doesn't, though, they never step back and ask "Why?" Not sincerely, anyway. The assumption is always that the gun control they passed simply wasn't enough, so they pass more.
They do the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result. Isn't there a term for that?
Still, let's be real here. Nothing will change in California. Not for the better, I mean. They'll pass more gun control, see nothing change because of it, and then pat themselves on the back for their good work.
There's a reason so many gun rights supporters don't believe that it's ever been about preventing crime, but preventing us from stopping tyranny. That, at least, makes a lot more sense.
Editor’s Note: The radical Left will stop at nothing to enact their radical gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
