Look, we know that you're probably hoping for some news that isn't about suppressors or short-barreled long guns here and there. We feel you on that, because we get tired of writing about the same topic after a while. However, it's massive news and there's really not a lot of choice but for us to talk about it.
But guess who isn't talking about it?
I ask because it's kind of important, and Newsbusters has the answer for us.
The liberal media have been so preoccupied this week with the Air Force One switcheroo story (because they’re so obsessed with themselves), that a massive win for Americans’ gun rights was just scored right under their noses and they barely noticed. The Thursday morning flagship news programs for ABC, CBS, and NBC, as well as the morning cable shows of CNN and MS NOW completely missed the National Firearms Act being essentially gutted overnight as the Trump administration declined to appeal a major court ruling.
Now, this is interesting.
See, I've noted for some time that the news media tends to create self-fulfilling prophecies about guns. They talk about how AR-15s are terrible because they let someone kill a bunch of people really quickly, then they lament that mass shooters seem to prefer them — they actually don't, but they've got the memory of a goldfish when it comes to what active shooters use. They talk about how awful "ghost guns" are because criminals can use them to bypass tracing, then criminals start making and selling privately made firearms.
They report it and make a thing of something, then act shocked when people learn that they can do these things and start doing them.
So right now, they don't want law-abiding folks to know that there's a way to get suppressors and short-barreled long guns because, well, people who are interested in such things might get memberships in groups like the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, the Firearms Policy Coalition, Gun Owners of America, or any of the others covered by the ruling, and then not just strengthen these groups, but also put more suppressors and SBRs on the streets.
In other words, they know when to inform the criminals that something is an option, but also when not to tell the American public that something's available for them to take advantage of.
I'd love to say that I'm paranoid about this, but after the last handful of years and seeing how the media is more than willing to be the mouthpiece of authoritarianism, I'm not worried about being paranoid. I'm worried that I'm not paranoid enough. Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you, after all.
So yeah, I think this is intentional. The talking heads for these networks might be talking smack on X, but X isn't the real world. It's Thunderdome for political opinions. You get people really into a given topic talking about that given topic, and the rest of the world tries to stay away from a cesspit that makes Mos Eisley look like Utopia.
It's telling that they're not talking about it, and I'm actually a bit surprised, though I also figure I shouldn't be.
They're not demonizing the situation or those who take advantage of it, but it makes sense why they're not. They're probably waiting until this applies to everyone before they start the fearmongering.
After all, it's not like a would-be mass killer is going to join an organization first just to get the evil suppressor that will make his murder-death-kill rampage more deadly. They want to wait before alerting the evil among us that there's something to consider.
Remember, no matter how much you hate the mainstream media, you don't hate them enough.
