Mass Shooting in Jordan Church Leaves Nine Dead, Dozens Injured

Mass shootings are, we've been told, a "uniquely American" phenomenon. "This doesn't happen in other countries," is a common enough refrain that many people actually believe it.

The truth of the matter is that what we term mass shootings are, in some parts of the world, just another Tuesday there. It doesn't even make the news.

But the truth of the matter is that a lot of places don't have the same issues with them that we do. I'll grant that.

However, a "uniquely American" mass shooting left nine people dead, more than 30 injured at a church in non-American Jordan.

At least nine people were killed and 34 were injured after gunmen opened fire on a church in Karak, Jordan, on Friday.

Surveillance footage verified by ABC News shows at least three gunmen pulling up at the entrance to the St. George Greek Orthodox Church in the village of Hammoud, Karak governorate, before opening fire.

However, eyewitnesses say there was also a fourth person, the driver, according to officials.

A funeral had not ended yet when the shooting began while mourners were in the church courtyard, Dirgham Al-Halasah, an eyewitness, said in an interview on camera.

"We have victims, we have wounded, we have great pain," Al-Halasah said.

"In essence, we are a village in the governorate in Karak that is well known for its natural homogeneity and good relations with everyone," Al-Halasah said. "What happened today is not expected."

On Saturday, 22 people remained in hospitals in stable condition, according to Jordanian Minister of Health Ibrahim Bdour.

Security agencies report that they continue the hunt for the perpetrators, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Jordan’s Prime Minister Jafar Hassan said that the attack is the result of "blind extremism."

In other words, terrorism.

Still, it should be noted that Jordan isn't exactly friendly to legal gun ownership. The Middle Eastern nation requires a license just to own a firearm for inside the home. Theoretically, they do have concealed carry, but average citizens rarely qualify for them.

What that translates to is that the people in this church, in the heavily Muslim Middle East, where many Muslims hold particular animosity toward anyone who isn't Muslim, had a church full of sitting ducks and almost no chance there was someone there to intervene.

Compare that to the shooting in White Settlement, TX, where the bad guy got domed quick, fast, and in a hurry.

Now, I'll acknowledge that there are a lot of guns in the Middle East, despite the laws, but that's also kind of the point. Bad guys are going to get guns, and when you're talking about what looks like terrorists, they're definitely going to get guns. They're practically swimming in them.

Couple that with a profound sense of superiority and hatred toward other faiths, and you have a recipe for exactly the same kind of atrocity we're told doesn't happen elsewhere.

And the truth is a lot of people here in this country want to emulate the exact same kinds of laws that failed to stop this horrific attack in Jordan. Never you mind that there are terrorists walking around the streets of America, many of whom walked through the previously wide-open border. Never you mind that these same people have access to guns beyond whatever the law allows. No, that doesn't matter.

All that matters to them is keeping us all as sitting ducks.

Editor’s Note: The radical Left will stop at nothing to enact their extreme gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
