Retired Judge Blasts Trick-Or-Treaters, Then Turns Gun on Cops
Tom Knighton

Your average, run-of-the-mill concealed carrier is among the most law-abiding people in the country. This is a very good thing, especially because we're carrying guns. However, some people seem to think that we shouldn't be trusted with the ability to carry a firearm. No, that should lie not with the average citizen, but with people who have a particular need and who we know we can trust.

You know, people like police officers and judges.

Oh, about that latter group...

A drunk former Oklahoma judge allegedly shot at a group of trick-or-treaters on Halloween and then pointed his gun at a responding cop – before he was taken to the jail in his former district.

Former judge Jerry Herberger, 73, fired toward the candy seekers outside his home in Duncan around 8 p.m. Saturday, police told KSWO, without revealing what set him off.

Thankfully, no one was hit, but when officers arrived, the retired jurist pointed his piece at one of them, according to the department.

Herberger was, in time, arrested without further incident.

Now, when I read this story, my mind went to a joke I hear every year about someone taking out zombies and werewolves and the like, but for some reason, they were all carrying bags of candy.

It's kind of sick, but I have a dark sense of humor, and I still chuckle every time I hear a variation on it.

But a dark sense of humor doesn't mean a sick mind. It's not funny when someone starts shooting at trick-or-treaters. I get that not everyone wants to partake, but if that's the case, just leave your porch light off and don't answer the door. It's not rocket science.

For some reason, Herberger allegedly couldn't handle whatever, got liquored up, and decided to shoot at kids.

Yeah, even if we're talking about the older kids who you get annoyed with for trick-or-treating, they're still children. You don't shoot at them without a valid reason for self-defense. Being drunk doesn't help with that, though.

Allegedly.

Meanwhile, there's almost no one who would say judges shouldn't be able to get guns, even in the most restrictive states or nations. After all, they make enemies as part of their jobs. They'll need to be able to protect themselves, right?

To be sure, judges should have the ability to defend themselves, but most murder victims aren't public officials, police officers, or celebrities — you know, the people who supposedly should get guns. No, most of the murder victims out there are "civilians" in some sense of the word, and if you remove those who are part of gang culture or even just adjacent to that, you get a bunch of regular people.

And even many of those I just removed in that last bit are regular people who just pissed off some gang-banger who couldn't handle being disrespected because they're little, little men with fragile egos, low self-esteem, and a profound sense of entitlement.

Herberger will face the justice system he once served. He's looking at enough charges that, if convicted, he'll never own another firearm ever again. At his age, his chances of getting those rights back are practically nil, especially with the assault and battery with a deadly weapon charge.

Editor’s Note: The radical Left will stop at nothing to enact their extreme gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
