Brave New Films, a progressive film company dedicated to “champion[ing] social justice issues by using a model of media, education, and grassroots volunteer involvement that inspires, empowers, motivates and teaches civic participation…,” has launched a new film called “Making a Killing: Guns, Greed and the NRA.”

This is how the film company describes the documentary:

Tells the stories of how guns, and the billions made off of them, affect the lives of everyday Americans. It features personal stories from people across the country who have been affected by gun violence, including survivors and victims’ families. The film exposes how the powerful gun companies and the NRA are resisting responsible legislation for the sake of profit – and thereby putting people in danger.

The gun control group uses individual cases of domestic violence, gang violence and mass shootings to make the case for a ban on firearms. The film attempts to make the NRA look like one giant lobbying group who is only interested in making money. The fact is the NRA represents over 5 million law-abiding gun owners across the nation.

Here are some of the claims made in the documentary’s trailer:

1.) “Why would anyone trust the NRA when the gun companies are paying much of their salary?”

FACT: The NRA’s more than 5 million members pay, in part, for the salaries of its employees. Employees who work in the firearms industry are allowed to donate causes of their choosing. If they want to ensure their Second Amendment right is advocated for, they have that right and protection under the Constitution.

2.) “Gun companies want to sell guns. You know, they’re selling death.”

FACT: Firearms manufacturers are producing firearms for self-defense. They want law-abiding Americans to have the ability to defend themselves should the need arise. Americans also utilize firearms for hunting, as a means of providing food for their families, and to compete in sporting events, like trap and skeet.

3.) “The guns and ammunition industry in the U.S. generated an estimated revenue of $11.7 billion.”

FACT: The gun industry is booming because more Americans than ever have decided to partake in a variety shooting sports:

  • Handgun sports include action shooting, silhouette and precision.
  • Shotgun sports include trap, skeet and sporting clays.
  • Rifle sports include bench rest, silhouette and position.

In true liberal fashion, a handful of Congressional members, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, are hosting screenings of the film to continue the gun control push.a handful of Congressional members, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, are hosting screenings of the film to continue the gun control push.
