Leaving no tragedy left unexploited, Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe used today’s Alexandria, VA GOP shooting to not only push gun control but added a major misnomer on how many Americans are killed by gun violence every day.

“Let me say this, we need to do more to protect all of our citizens,” the governor said during a press conference this morning. “I have long advocated, this is not what today is about, but there are too many guns on the street.”

McAuliffe went on to push one of the biggest gun control narratives and added a whopper of his own when he claimed, “We lose 93 million Americans a day to gun violence,” boasting he has long talked about  “background checks, shutting down gun show loopholes, you know that’s not for today’s discussion.”

One reporter called the governor out on his hypocrisy, asking, “If it’s not the day for it, why are you bringing it up?”

McAuliffe went on to reference his attendance at the funeral for Virginia State Police Special Agent Michael T. Walter, who was shot and killed during a traffic stop in Richmond’s Mosby Court. The man who killed Walter on May 27, 2017 is being held without bail and has been charged with one count of malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

But facts be damned, McAuliffe once again reiterated the error, saying, “obviously, with 93 million people a day, it’s just something…”

The governor finally corrected himself after being questioned by a reporter at the press conference.

Republicans who were on the scene at the time of the shooting saw the incident much differently.

“I felt like I was back in Iraq, but without my weapon,” said Representative Brad Wenstrup.

“You have a baseball bat, they have a rifle, you’re defenseless,” said Representative Mo Brooks.

The shooter, who has been identified by the FBI, approached lawmakers practicing at a YMCA baseball field in Del Ray, Alexandria, and asked if they ‘were Democrats or Republicans’ before opening fire on the politicians. The alleged shooter also has an interesting Facebook page adorned with a banner image of Senator Bernie Sanders and a profile picture referencing Democratic Socialism reading, “Democratic Socialism explained in 3 words: ‘We the People’ Since 1776.”

On March 22, 2017, he posted, “Trump is a Traitor. Trump Has Destroyed Our Democracy. It’s Time to Destroy Trump & Co.”

Stay locked, loaded, and ready, patriots.
