Giffords-Endorsed Racist Gun Control Rep. Gabe Vasquez Is Due In Court In September

Last week, I wrote about the racist shenanigans of Giffords’ gun control endorsee Rep. Gabe Vasquez (D-NM). Besides the racist behavior, Vasquez also has falsifying data, domestic disturbances, and marijuana possession in his past.

But Wait, There's More!

Giffords’ gun control endorsee had an arrest warrant executed against him in March, and is due in court this September. The Washington Free Beacon reports (archived link):

Rep. Gabe Vasquez Due in Court After Texas Police Execute Arrest Warrant Against Him, Court Docs Show

Congressman was a no-show for court dates after he was charged with driving without a license and insurance

Police in El Paso, Texas, executed an arrest warrant against New Mexico Democratic congressman Gabe Vasquez in March, according to court documents obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

Vasquez, the documents show, failed to appear in court more than two decades ago, in 2002, after he was charged with driving without a license, driving without insurance, and disregarding an "official traffic control device." Police subsequently cited him for a failure to appear in court in September 2007 and issued a warrant for his arrest in April 2008.

It’s amazing that a gun control group like Giffords that would happily impose licensing, registration, “liability” insurance requirements on the mere act of gun ownership for law-abiding citizens endorsed a shady, racist Congressman who was driving around without a license, without insurance, and violating traffic controls.

An El Paso constable executed the warrant roughly two months ago, on March 19, according to court documents. Vasquez paid a nearly $900 cash bond, pleaded no contest, and waived his right to a jury trial.

He has a pre-trial hearing in September, court filings show, and will face a conviction and forfeiture of his bond if he does not appear, according to his no contest plea. A Vasquez spokesperson called the September hearing an "administrative mistake" and pledged to produce documentation at the first opportunity.

Vasquez’s plea document lists his employment as "United States Congress."

Vasquez has failed to appear in Court once, but there’s a good chance he will show up this time around because of professional ramifications.

It is kind of cute to hear Vasquez’s spokesperson complain about an “administrative mistake” when gun control supporters have pushed the ATF’s “zero tolerance” policy that penalizes honest firearms retailers for honest administrative mistakes in the firearms transfer process.

Vasquez did address the ordeal publicly and conducted business as usual. On March 19, as a representative for Vasquez paid his bond, the congressman hosted a "tele-town hall." A day later, he issued a statement attacking what he called a "dangerous Supreme Court ruling" that permitted Texas to temporarily enforce a law that allows local police to arrest migrants.

Vasquez lives in Las Cruces, New Mexico, but was born roughly 50 miles south in El Paso. He spent years criticizing law enforcement ahead of his first congressional run in 2022, when he began to describe himself as a staunch supporter of police.

The hypocrisy and double standards are deep with Vasquez. His political positions turned like a weathervane when he noticed the public sentiment change. The man’s moral compass, if he has one, doesn’t appear to have a True North.

In the summer of 2020, for example, he called to "deconstruct and rebuild the systems of oppression that keep black people in perpetual harm," which he said included "law enforcement" and "the economy." He also said that as long as "white folks … dominate this nation's wealth and preside over our nation's governing bodies and judicial systems, the racism, killing, and injustice will continue."

As last week’s article pointed out, Vasquez has used vile racist language against an African-American colleague in the past. His sudden change of heart and poignant political position is a bunch of claptrap unworthy of anyone’s trust.

I am a strong believer in the old adage by Marcus Tullius Cicero: “More laws, less justice.” I don’t think Vasquez should lose his Second Amendment rights on the basis of mere accusations of domestic violence, or the possession of marijuana, or minor infractions. Giffords, however, supports all those rights infringements.

It’s ironic that Giffords’ racist gun control endorsee has been an exemplar of the traits that Giffords thinks should make someone unworthy of firearms possession.
