Just a day after observing the one year anniversary of Parkland, headlines are being made of another active shooter incident, this time in Aurora, Illinois.

From WGN:

Police are responding to an active shooter situation at a manufacturing facility in west suburban Aurora.

Kane County’s SWAT team, the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force and other police are at Henry Pratt Company, which is near Highland Avenue and Prairie Street. Streets in the area are closed.

No injuries have been confirmed but there are reports that at least one officer and six others were hurt in the shooting.

An area school reports that students are sheltering in place as a precaution, though there doesn’t seem to be any credible threats at this time.

The ATF in Chicago has announced they’re responding as well.

Right now, the situation is extremely fluid, so anything being reported right now has a high probability of either being wrong or changing at a moment’s notice.

Update (15:55 Eastern): As of right now, USA Today is reporting that the shooter is still reported as being at large.

Police in Aurora, Illinois, responded Friday to reports of an active shooter at a manufacturing plant in the southwest suburb of Chicago, city officials said on Twitter.

The Aurora Daily Herald says preliminary reports indicate that four Aurora police officers and multiple civilians have been wounded.

The newspaper says the shooter remains at large.

ABC7 in Chicago quotes police as saying there are “multiple” casualties, but have not reported if that includes any fatalities.

Of course, this fully explains why the school is on lockdown.

Update (15:59 Eastern): The Washington Times is reporting that at least four officers, as well as a number of civilians, are listed as casualties.

Update (16:04 Eastern): The Daily Beast reports an eyewitness describes what she saw as the events unfolded.

Eyewitness John Probst told ABC Chicago he saw a coworker inside carrying a pistol and heard several gunshots before running out the back of the building. “One of the guys was up in the office, he said this person was shooting, and, he come running down and he was bleeding pretty bad, and the next thing you know he was walking back and forth, I heard more shots, and we just left the building,” he said.

Now, it’s not clear if this was the shooter or someone who saw the shooter and went to confront them. While it’s Illinois and it’s unlikely it was an armed citizen, we don’t want to dismiss that possibility outright. However, considering the chain of events being described, assuming they’re accurate–eyewitnesses are notoriously unreliable, after all, because memory is a tricky thing–then it seems likely this was the first view of the shooter.

Update (16:15 Eastern): KXLH reports that the shooter is in custody:

The suspected shooter in Aurora, Illinois, has been apprehended, according to the city’s official social media.

Update (07:04 Eastern 2/16/2019): Police have identified the killer. The individual was being fired from the company.

Aurora Police Chief Kristen Ziman says 45-year-old [name redacted] “was being terminated” Friday afternoon before he opened fire at the Henry Pratt Co. warehouse in Aurora.

Five police officers also were shot and wounded before [he] was located in the warehouse. Ziman says [the shooter] was shot and killed.

Police have also searched his home.
