Anti-gunners are big on anniversaries.

Anytime there’s an anniversary of a mass shooting, they typically call for gun control as if the good firearms do is completely eradicated on that particular anniversary.

Right now, it seems many are focused on the anniversary of the shooting of Gabby Giffords who was one of a number of people injured as many more were killed.

And considering Giffords is an avowed anti-gunner, you know you’re going to hear about gun control.

On the anniversary of the 2011 Tucson shooting that killed six and injured thirteen others, including U.S. Rep. Gabby Giffords, gun safety advocates gathered across the street from the Arizona Capitol, calling for action from lawmakers as they began the 2024 legislative session.

“I stand here today — 13 years to the moment almost — to honor the six people whose lives were taken that day,” said Pam Simon, a gun violence survivor, to a crowd of people waving Moms Demand Action and Everytown for Gun Safety posters.

Simon was a part of Giffords’ campaign, and a bullet tore through her arm and into her chest on that day. Since then, she’s joined several gun safety advocacy groups with the goal of preventing future shootings via gun control legislation. The key, she told the crowd on Monday, is to be a persistent voice on the radar of lawmakers.

“There are gun laws that can make this a safer community and they are elected to keep us safe,” she said. “We need to let them know that we are here in our red shirts, we’re not going away anytime soon and we demand action!”

The problem, however, is that Giffords screwed up.

She made it very clear what action she really wanted. “No more guns,” she said. She was given an opportunity to backtrack and refused to so.

That means we know where she stands and it’s not in any way supportive of the Second Amendment. As such, I can’t help but figure the group that bears her name shares at least some portion of that vision.

But that’s not what they’re going to say on this anniversary. In fact, they want to downplay that. They don’t even want it acknowledged that Giffords said any such thing.

The above-linked article never mentions that for some silly reason.

Instead, this incident it just tied to mass shootings as a whole, which isn’t entirely unfair, then a smorgasbord of other gun control proposals are pushed as simply a rational response to a perplexing problem.

Except we know where this will all lead. We know because Gabby Giffords told us.

On this anniversary of the shooting that made her start down this road, we need to remember where anti-gunners want to take us. It’s not a more peaceful society, though many honestly believe that’s where they’re headed.

No, they’re taking us down a path that will eventually lead us to be forced to either give up our guns or become outlaws. It’ll be a road that leads to the effective repeal of the Second Amendment.

“No more guns” she said.
