Selection of Walz as VP Makes This Most Anti-Gun Ticket in History

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz was far from the only potential pick Vice President Kamala Harris could have made, but he's the one she chose over Sen. Mark Kelly and Gov. Josh Shapiro.

None of those other two are known for their pro-gun credentials, to be sure, especially Kelly, but Harris went with Walz who is beloved by the more progressive wing of the Democratic Party.

And yeah, that comes along with a lot of anti-Second Amendment baggage.

For example, he's a big supporter of Harris's three primary anti-gun policies.

Democrat Vice Presidential pick Tim Walz wants the three central gun controls that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have spent years pushing in Washington, DC.

Those controls–an “assault weapons” ban, universal background checks, and red flag laws–have been pushed time and again by Biden and/or Harris at every opportunity, including those in which the gun controls had absolutely nothing to do with the events that led to their mention.

...

Walz is in lockstep with Biden and Harris on these three controls.

On February 21, 2018, the Star Tribune reported that then-sitting U.S. representative and leading DFL gubernatorial candidate Walz pushed an “assault weapons” ban.

And during his second term as Gov. of Minnesota, KARE11 noted Walz used part of his 2023 State of the State message to go after firearms that he labeled “weapons of war,” saying, “…I’m not just a veteran, or a hunter, or a gun owner. I’m a dad. And for many years, I was a teacher. I know that there’s no place for weapons of war in our schools, or in our churches, or in our banks, or anywhere else people are just trying to live their lives without fear.”

Of course, Walz failed to note that schools are generally gun-free zones in most places and yet, absolutely nothing stops these mass murderers from carrying guns onto campuses in the first place. These so-called 'weapons of war' could just as easily be some other firearm--I'd argue that the media is responsible for many killers deciding to use an AR-15 in the first place--and they could kill just as many people.

But Walz isn't looking or considering that.

Now, he says he's a gun owner, which one might imagine would at least make Walz sympathetic toward other gun owners. Well, they might if they didn't know any better.

In fact, Walz has a long history of getting a failing grade from the NRA, and that doesn't bother him in the least.

“I got an A rating from the NRA my first term in Congress. Now I get straight F’s. And I sleep just fine,” Walz said in his 2023 address, adding that everyone knows gun violence is an issue but are “just used to being bullied by the gun lobby.” The NRA, which has recently waned in influence, has a history of playing a large hand in elections, having spent more than $50 million to back Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential race

He shouldn't.

What Walz did to get that "F" was to turn on people's right to keep and bear arms, all for a sense of popularity.

Yet with his inclusion, we now have what may be the most vehemently anti-gun ticket in history. Yeah, it probably would have gone that route regardless of who Harris selected, but it is what it is.

Walz is someone who took the NRA's money when it was beneficial and still tries to present himself as the typical gun owner so as to try and sell gun control to an unsuspecting public. He supports the extreme anti-gun agenda of his new boss and would do anything he could in order to strip you of your right to keep and bear arms.

Remember that when Walz pulls his "I'm a hunter, a veteran, and a gun owner" schtick. As someone who has been a hunter and is a veteran and gun owner, none of those things give him any moral authority to justify infringing on our Second Amendment rights.
