NYPD Precinct Brags About Making Big Apple Safe for...Birds, Maybe?

New York City isn't fond of guns. They don't want anyone to have them, and it doesn't matter what kind of gun we're talking about here, either. They want them all gone; they just can't make that happen.

And, despite the animosity between the new mayor and the NYPD, the department itself tends to have a very high number of officers who favor gun control. They're proud of finding guns that people aren't expressly authorized to have, even if it's clear they're not a threat to anyone.

For example, as Lee Williams points out, they're absolutely tickled by a recent recovery of two firearms.

The New York Police Department has lost its collective mind, especially at its 115th Precinct, which is responsible for keeping a portion of Queens and LaGuardia Airport safe, sane and secure.

The commanding officer, Deputy Inspector David Cordano, recently posted a photo of two shotguns and about 60 shells on his precinct’s X page. The guns are nothing special: a semi-auto and an over-under. The shells include birdshot and slugs. But it’s Cordano’s caption that has me scratching my head.

“Today, our patrol officers responded to a radio run and removed these illegal firearms from our streets,” Cordano posted on X. “Great work by our officers for their quick response and commitment to keeping our community safe!”

Even though I haven’t had a badge in my billfold for quite a while, I still need to say this to Deputy Inspector Cordano: If you truly believe your community is actually put at risk by guns like these, you, sir, are ready for the rubber-gun squad.

Well, maybe depending on the guns themselves....

Oh, wait.

Yeah, there's literally nothing to freak out over.

Now, it's theoretically possible that whoever had them was a convicted felon, or that they were stolen by someone from a law-abiding gun owner, but the reality is that these, especially as they're configured, are terrible choices for any kind of criminal actions. The fact that they could have been sawed down with a cheap hacksaw and weren't suggests that whoever had them had no interest in doing anything criminal with them.

But someone's got a gun, and the NYPD can't have that, apparently.

Honestly, this is what anti-gun hysteria looks like in its more typical form. These are firearms that, absent any other information about why they're illegal, shouldn't even be blinked at. If they're stolen, fine. Return them to their owners, but that doesn't remotely sound like it's the case, and that's a big freaking problem.

These shotguns are the epitome of a "hunting gun." About the only thing they're good for in New York City is hunting pigeons, which I can sort of understand the temptation to shoot, but no one is doing that. They might also be useful for home defense in a pinch, which I'm sure some of the honchos of the NYPD have an issue with, too.

Either way, they're bragging about protecting the city for birds, I guess, because it's unlikely either of these would ever be used for much else.
