Minneapolis to Consider Gun Control Bill Despite State's Preemption Law

If you want evidence that Minnesota didn't always have such an anti-gun tilt to it, just look at the fact that they've got a preemption law on the books. Local cities can't, in theory, pass their own gun control, though it didn't stop St. Paul from trying.

And it's not going to stop the other Twin City from giving it a go, too, it seems.

Yes, really, Minneapolis is going to consider a local gun control bill.

Minneapolis leaders are moving forward with a new gun control ordinance, but questions remain about whether it can actually be enforced.

City council advances gun control ordinance to full vote

What we know: The Minneapolis City Council’s Committee of the Whole voted unanimously to send a proposed gun control ordinance to the full council for a vote on Thursday. The ordinance would ban assault weapons, high-capacity magazines and ghost guns in the city.

The measure also includes stricter rules for public carrying of firearms and safe storage. It would require gun owners to report lost or stolen firearms and mandates safe storage practices.

The city is following in the footsteps of St. Paul, which passed a similar ordinance to send a message about gun safety, even though state law takes precedence over city rules.

Because, of course, brain-dead Minneapolis is going to look at illegal gun control laws.

Even if gun control worked, which it doesn't, local ordinances are particularly stupid. They carry misdemeanor charges, which not only aren't disqualifying for future gun purchases in most cases, but also don't remove the bad guy from society for all that long, if they do at all.

Meanwhile, people in the rest of the state can do as they wish, and since "the rest of the state" ends right at the city limits, that's not hard. Trafficking is trivial at that point.

I'll also note that this is the same city that was on the leading edge of the whole "Defund the Police" movement and even tried to disband its police force, but now crime is so terrible that they have to take away the ability of law-abiding citizens to protect themselves? First throttle the cops, then the rest of the lawful public, and do nothing at all to the criminals that are the core of the issues in any large city. It's kind of an obvious playbook, but they failed to kill the police department, though I suspect they'll try again.

Note to Minneapolis: No one is going to let you do this. While "Tampon" Timmy Walz and his buddies at the state level will turn a blind eye easily enough, you will be sued over this. You will have your butts handed to you in court sooner or later. This won't stand. All you're doing is making things difficult for gun owners.

And I know that's the point. We all know that's the point.

But we're not going to play dumb for your benefit, either.

Stop this stupidity while you still have time, because if you don't, you're not going to be able to escape the scrutiny coming your way.

Editor’s Note: The radical Left will stop at nothing to enact their radical gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
