James Talarico won the Democratic nomination for the Texas Senate. He was up against Jasmine Crockett, though, so it's not hard to see what Lone Star State Democrats saw in the man. He wasn't Jasmine Crockett, for example.
But that doesn't mean the man is as anti-Texas as you could imagine, even making a thing about how his campaign was vegan.
In Texas.
Still, he's not trying to mandate veganism on everyone. No, he's more interested in doing that on universal background checks.
U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico (D) supports implementing a background check requirement for all gun sales, thereby criminalizing the private gun sales Americans have enjoyed since 1791.
Under the heading Public Safety & Justice on his campaign website, securing background checks for all guns is listed as one of Talarico’s “priorities,” should he be elected to the Senate.
Another priority is the passage of a firearm storage law. Such laws typically set forth how guns must be stored–often locked in a safe or container, sometimes separate from ammunition–in order to protect “children in the home.”
A third priority is to raise the minimum age at which someone could “purchase semi-automatic rifles with certain military-style features like high-capacity magazines.”
Talarico frames this as an effort to "Protect the Second Amendment while protecting our neighbors from gun violence," all while ignoring the reality that universal background checks have no impact on how most criminals get their guns in the first place, mandatory storage laws require parents to ignore their unique circumstances in order to obey a measure created by people who don't give a damn, and if someone is old enough to vote, they should be old enough to exercise literally every other right that isn't expressly limited via the Constitution, such as age limits for certain federal offices.
Of course, the fact that Talarico--a man who says God is non-binary--is anti-gun isn't surprising. I'm more than a little sick of these twerps pretending that they're protecting the Second Amendment while calling for infringements on the only right that expressly says "shall not be infringed," but it's not unexpected.
And the anti-gun Democrats in Texas actually think this is a winning strategy in a state that's known for a flag with a cannon on it and the words, "Come and take it" written on it? Seriously?
An intelligent move might have been to try and ignore the issue entirely, then make moves once in office, but nope. Talarico and his campaign actually think this is a winning strategy for them in the general election. They actually think restricting semi-auto rifles and telling people they can't sell a gun to their brother-in-law without going to a gun store, even though criminals will conduct sales on street corners without a gun store in the zip code, is going to resonate with Texans.
I'm serious, if Texas goes down this road with this guy who wishes he had the raw masculine appeal of Beto O'Rourke or Pete Buttigieg, then I don't know that there's hope for us as a species. At that point, let's just welcome the Sweet Meteor of Death, because we deserve it.
Editor’s Note: The radical Left will stop at nothing to enact their radical gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
