The right to keep and bear arms is restricted well beyond anything the Founding Fathers would have tolerated. However, those restrictions exist, and, for now, they're the law. We're told these laws work and that we should embrace them or something.

That's hard to do when you know it's absolute BS, and there's ample evidence of them being BS.

For example, the illicit drug trade alone is proof that laws restricting a product don't keep that product from being in people's hands if they want it. We're not even talking about pills that are Schedule III or something, where someone gets a script filled, and then sells it, much like a straw buy. I'm talking about stuff like heroin, cocaine, and meth.

And a recent ATF raid highlights this beautifully.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon announced today the completion of a coordinated, five‑week federal law enforcement operation targeting firearms and narcotics trafficking in the Portland metro area.

From August to September 2026, the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF)—working with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and local law enforcement partners—conducted an enforcement operation in the Portland metro area targeting narcotics and firearms trafficking. Using data to identify high‑risk locations, agents carried out investigative work, resulting in the seizure of 97 firearms and a significant quantity of illicit drugs, including methamphetamine, cocaine, crack cocaine, and fentanyl.

“Violent crime is not only a threat to innocent lives but also to our way of life,” said Jonathan Blais, Special Agent in Charge, ATF Seattle Field Division. “By removing trafficked firearms and dangerous drugs from the streets of Portland, we have made a meaningful difference, most notably for the residents, students, and visitors to this community. I want to thank our law enforcement and prosecutorial partners who joined us in our mission to reduce violent crime and disrupt both firearms and drug trafficking in this city. ATF remains committed to delivering measurable results and lasting public safety.”

Just for funsies, I decided to look at the ratio of guns to drugs (195 pounds of drugs, for the record), and that's a little over two pounds of drugs for every gun.

And here these guys had nearly 100 firearms, and there were a grand total of 17 arrests. That's a lot of firepower for that number of people, which leads me to figure there were probably plenty of people who just didn't get caught.

Or they just liked guns, which is something I can totally understand. Guns are dope. Guns with dope, though, is a felony. Yeah, Hemani changed a lot of the rules, but I'm pretty sure that having crap like this on hand is beyond what the Supreme Court would term as permissible.

Should it matter? Probably not, but the law is the law, and while these guys are getting meth, coke, crack, and fentanyl, they also got nearly 100 firearms that I'm willing to bet didn't come from a lawful purchase at a gun store.

There's no mention by the ATF of where they came from, though I suspect they'll know soon enough if they didn't know already. Still, guns and drugs coexist, and will continue to coexist. If you cannot stop these people from getting cocaine, fentanyl, meth, and a host of other drugs that typically come from outside the United States, then what makes you think these guys would lose access to guns even if every American firearm vanished tomorrow? They'd just import them with the drugs.

This isn't rocket science, for crying out loud.

Hell, where do you think a bunch of the so-called Glock switches come from? It sure as hell ain't your local Walmart.

So yeah, so long as there's a drug trade, or trade of anything illicit, there will be an illicit gun trade. You can count on it.
