Racism is a very serious charge that should be saved for actual instances of racism. Overusing or falsely using that charge cheapens it, and weakens the overall effort to create a society that is broadly free of rank bigotry. Unfortunately, the country has seen several false accusations of racism lately, ranging from the Jussie Smollett lynching hoax to the Covington Catholic kerfuffle, and it’s adding to a sense of backsliding in general.
The gun control movement is contributing to the backsliding, and it extends far beyond their trumpeting of the alleged white supremacy of Second Amendment supporters. For instance, Giffords has falsely accused the new NRA President Bob Barr of racism, digging up an old, debunked story to smear him. The irony of it is that while doing this, they hide the racists in their midst.
In the past month, I wrote about the accusations of racism, work misconduct, domestic misbehavior, drug use, and a court no-show by gun control group Giffords’ endorsee Rep. Gabe Vasquez (D-NM). The accusations, originally reported by the Washington Free Beacon, are serious and credible. For those who missed it, here’s a quick summary:
'Chris, the N—er': Police Report Describes Dem Rep. Gabe Vasquez Using Racial Slur in Harassing Phone Call with Former Colleague
In the summer of 2004, a human resources employee at a call center in Las Cruces, New Mexico, received a call from a man who asked for "Chris." The employee asked the caller to elaborate, given that more than one Chris worked at the center. "Chris, the n—er," the caller responded, using a racial slur.
When the employee hung up, the man called again. This time, he asked for "Chris, the black man," laughed, and hung up the phone. The employee recognized the caller's voice and, after searching his telephone number, identified him as a former employee who had been "terminated for cause for falsifying data," according to a 2004 police report obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.
[...]
The Free Beacon received responsive records, all of which stem from Vasquez's time at New Mexico State University, which the now-congressman attended from 2002 to 2008.
Four of the five records list Vasquez by name. Two stem from arguments between Vasquez and his girlfriend and two detail arrests for marijuana possession.
Vasquez is very hypocritical in his behavior, accusing others of the racism that he himself is credibly accused of:
During his inaugural House campaign in 2022, Vasquez urged his followers to celebrate the "very important day" of Juneteenth, telling them that blacks "continue to build this country and enrich our communities and our lives."
Vasquez has also been quick to declare others racist, deleting tweets during that campaign that compared the Trump administration to the Ku Klux Klan, CNN reported.
It comes as no surprise that the gun control group Giffords has the same playbook when it comes to racism. Having endorsed the proven racist Rep. Gabe Vasquez in both 2022 and 2024, and even donating $1000 to his campaign, taking a page from Vasquez, they falsely accused the NRA President Bob Barr of racism. This happened soon after reformers managed to get their candidates on the NRA Board, and was directly aimed at derailing and smearing the reform effort.
I contacted the Giffords organization almost a month ago, asking if they were reconsidering or revoking their endorsement of proven racist Rep. Gabe Vasquez. I heard nothing back from them.

Hello,
I am a writer with bylines at Bearing Arms.
In light of recent revelations about Rep. Gabe Vasquez (D-NM) about his arrest warrant, racist behavior and domestic outbursts, is Giffords reconsidering or revoking your endorsement of Rep. Gabe Vasquez?
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Ranjit Singh
Giffords played possum and never responded to my inquiry, hoping that the story about Rep. Gabe Vasquez would just melt away.
In the meantime, Gabe Vasquez won the Democrat primary on June 4, 2024 and advanced to the general election. He's continued yapping about gun control since his primary victory.
On June 7th, I celebrated wear orange day to bring awareness to gun violence.

In Congress, I am proud to support common-sense legislation such as the Assault Weapons Ban, the Bipartisan Background Check Act and Ethan's Law. #WearOrange pic.twitter.com/rRZh4gAYec
This speaks volumes about the gun control movement. They know that they will lose an honest debate with Second Amendment supporters, so instead, they use lies, deceit, and the repetition of those lies and deceit through a compliant, regurgitating media. Finally, they depend on the last resort of a scoundrel: false charges of racism.
Don’t count on the mainstream press to highlight the racists on the gun control side though. They’re just as dishonest and deceptive, and likely irredeemable.
